Pozycja Open Access Membrane fouling during ultrafiltration of wastewaters from car washes(2024-05-20) Gryta, Marek; Woźniak, Piotr; Zachodniopomorski Uniwersytet Technologiczny w Szczecinie. Wydział Technologii i Inżynierii Chemicznej; Zachodniopomorski Uniwersytet Technologiczny w Szczecinie. Wydział Technologii i Inżynierii ChemicznejThe commercial ultrafiltration PVDF tubular membranes (FP100) were applied for separation of effluents generated during car washing. Using a 50-75% water recovery coefficient allowed to obtain over 60% rejection of COD, and obtain the high-purity permeate (0.3 NTU). However, significant flux decline was caused by a severe membrane fouling. The tubular polyvinylidenefluoride membranes of 100 kDa were obtained from PCI (Poland). The tube inner diameter was 12.5 mm. Wastewater generated from a manual car wash was used for ultrafiltration tests. Wastewater sample collected from the settling tank with a turbidity of 215 NTU contained over 300 mg/L of suspended solids. In addition to the pollutants removed from the cars, it contained surfactants used for washing (120 mg/L), and the determined COD value was 2200 mg O2/L. The transmembrane pressure (TMP) was maintained at 0.05-0.3 MPa, and the feed flow velocity over the membrane was equal to 1 m/s. After completion of UF process, the membranes were rinsed with deionised water and cleaned with alkaline (pH>11) and acid solutions.Pozycja Open Access Cleaning polyethersulfone membranes fouled by carwash wastewaters(2023-05-20) Gryta, Marek; Woźniak, Piotr; Zachodniopomorski Uniwerstet Technologiczny w Szczecinie. Wydział Technologii i Inżynierii Chemicznej; West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. Faculty of Chemical Technology and EngineeringThe polyethersulfone (PES) membranes were applied for separation of effluents generated during car washing. This wastewater contained several compounds (oil and grease, surfactants, solids, nitrogen, and phosphorus) caused the membrane fouling, which reduced water transport across the membrane wall. In the present work, the possibility of applying alkaline washing agents for chemical cleaning fouled PES membranes were studied. Do oczyszczania tych ścieków zastosowano ultrafiltrację.Pozycja Open Access Separation of wastewater from carwash stations by ultrafiltration(2022-05-22) Woźniak, Piotr; Gryta, Marek; West Pomeranian University of Technology in SzczecinThe amount of water required for washing each car depends on the type of vehicle and its equipment and is estimated in the range from 150 to 600 L Water consumption can be reduced by using the water recycling systems Carwash wastewaters contain significant amounts of contaminants such as oil and grease, surfactants, solids, nitrogen, and phosphorus Various treatment technologies have been used for the treatment of these wastewaters In the present study, the ultrafiltration process was applied for separation of effluents from carwash stationsPozycja Open Access Studies of membrane scaling during water desalination by membrane distillation(2018) Gryta, Marek; Wesołowska, Patrycja; Karakulski, KrzysztofIn the case of MD carried out with natural water, the salts present in such water are retained and produced distillate is demineralized water. A major problem that hinders an industrial implementation of MD is a phenomenon of membrane wetting, which is often induced by membrane scaling.
