    Members of The Students Scientific Botanical Circle of the Chair of Botany in the Higher School of Agriculture, Szczecin, have studied in the years 1958— 1959 the mistletoe in the area of Szczecin. Mistletoe (Viscum album L.) is a half-parasiting plant prevalent on trees and shrubs. It belongs to the Loranthaceae family, of the Santalales order. In Poland the following three species of mistletoe are found. (Szafer 1953): 1. Viscum album L. — appearing on leafy trees and on pine. 2. Viscum laxum Boisse — on pine exclusively. 3. Viscum abietis Beck — on fir trees. After carrying out examinations on the prevalence of mistletoe, H. Karmażyńska (1928) has distinguished in Poland three areas running in parallel belts. Szczecin is lying in the northern belt, where Viscum album is decidedly prevalent onvarious species of leafy trees. At the time of the investigations, 1651 trees and shrubs struck with mistletoe have been registered at Szczecin. It was found that mistletoe appears mainly on birches and poplars (Т Ы . I) Commonly found on maples (Acer platanoides L. and A. dasycarpum Ehrh.) it does not strike the Acer negundo L.) Single trees and shrubs struck by mistletoe were found among the following native species: wild rose (Rosa canina L.) Hippophae rhamnoides L.) plum — tree (Prunus L.), pear-tree (Pirus L.) and the following of foreign origin: Black nut — tree (Juglans nigra L.) the Aesculus octandra M arsh., the Aesculus carnea Hayne, the red oak (Quercus borealis M ichx), the farinaceus sorb-tree (Sorbus aria Crantz), the silver lime-tree (Tilia tomentosa M oench.) and the Ailanthus glandulosa Desf. Among the above mentioned the Hippophae rhamnoides L, and the Ailanthus rhamnoides Desf are the species, on which no mistletoe was found before.
